David Kapaona - Head Trainer of Althouse Karate and Kickboxing Academy / Kapaona MMA
Some things are usually not so sure, but David Kapaona is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Dave is known throughout the no holds barred community as one of the top Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters in the world. Kapaona is someone who started his fighting career with karate at the age of 8 and he currently holds three belts in three different weight classes. As the countless MMA fighters before him, David Kapaona has worked tirelessly to get where he is today. What separates Kapaona from the rest of the pack is he also has a story to tell.

David Kapaona was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He trained in Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu and Shaolin Kung Fu. Though he had always enjoyed training in MMA Dave also excelled in basketball while in high school. During the summer of 1989 while attending Muhlenburg High School he was invited to Nikes top 100 Basketball Camp. David then received a full ride 4 year basketball scholarship to Mount St. Mary's college in Emmitsburg, Maryland. After playing in college for 3 years at Mount St. Mary's David then transferred to Alvernia College in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1993. In 1995, during his senior year, he was named player of the year then graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. After he graduated from college David found himself doing a variety of things that included; playing for the Orlando Magic summer league in 1995, doing some pro-wrestling, kick-boxing and modeling.

From 2001 through 2003 Kapaona was the Assistant coach for the Varsity Basketball Team at Exeter Senior High School. In July of 2006 David won his first middleweight MMA title and eventually in 2006 opened his own MMA training school, which was called The Cage. Within the next year he won his second MMA title belt as a welterweight. In 2007 David had to sell the gym but continued to train in Philadelphia, Atlantic City and other gyms in the area. Recently Kapaona has defended his Middleweight Championship and in September of 2009 he began teaching at a local gym. On December 19, 2009 Dave won his third title in the light heavyweight class.
